Close family friends in my childhood were beekeepers, and I've long wanted to keep a hive -- but not while we live in the woods near the bears!Leslie Budewitzhttp://www.lawandfiction.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8056815460076050228.post-75416591781670181632011-08-27T15:13:24.748-04:002011-08-27T15:13:24.748-04:00Writer Lady, they only get annoyed if you get clos...Writer Lady, they only get annoyed if you get close to the hive. So if the school was across the street there would be no problem. Our hive is about five feet from the neighbor's fence and I doubt they ever see any bees. Likewise, the hive is about fifteen feet or so from our patio and we don't get bothered when we are outside having dinner or snacks.

Bees make very good Jeri Westersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08621322664609246112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8056815460076050228.post-27986123234904109772011-08-27T14:42:59.273-04:002011-08-27T14:42:59.273-04:00Very interesting Jeri. They wisely decided not to stay, but left us a bit of clean honeycomb (no honey) as a souvenir of their visit.

I'd like to have a hive, but there's a school next door and I'd worry about the children. So, I just plant flowers that bees like to visit.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07149940452550321323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8056815460076050228.post-14938361240931565422011-08-27T13:46:25.336-04:002011-08-27T13:46:25.336-04:00Liz, I think we looked online to see the average b...Liz, I think we looked online to see the average bee count in a hive. Besides, bee populations are dwindling due to Colony Collapse Disorder and organic hives are needed (that's the kind that don't feed their bees sugarwater which might diminsh their immune system). And they don't really bother us or the neighbor behind us.Jeri Westersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08621322664609246112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8056815460076050228.post-25391358001110257972011-08-27T13:26:16.038-04:002011-08-27T13:26:16.038-04:00I like bees (my father was a beekeeper) and love h...I like bees (my father was a beekeeper) and love honey and have thought about keeping a hive in our yard. Seems to me they'd be awfully hard to count. ;)Elizabeth Zelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944424094949207841noreply@blogger.com
